The Blows of Tragedy & Rising Up

The bombings that occurred during the Boston Marathon, is yet another incident of an attack on a large number of innocents in recent times. I, along with many people, am disgusted at the continued efforts of individuals who wish to put other people in harm, when ultimately, the victims have done nothing to provoke these hateful individuals.

The theater shooting in Colorado, the Newtown school shooting in Connecticut, and now the bombing in Boston have all occurred within a span of a year.

Despite the ill feelings towards recent events, I’ve seen people rise above these tragedies. Individuals who acted selflessly in order to help other individuals, who just like in relation to those attackers, have never even met .

The parents of one of the young students killed in Newtown, who after losing their child, sought out to meet the father of the shooter, to express their condolences at the loss of his son. In Boston, it is reported that some of the runners, who had just completed a race of just over 26 miles, proceeded to go to the hospital to donate blood for the bombing victims. People at the race, including the volunteers, proceeded to help other people escape, willingly going into the danger zone moments after the blast had occurred.

It is the acts of selfless individuals that continues to provide some sense of optimism in a world where attacks of this nature are becoming more frequent and makes the feelings of disgust more tolerable. However, loved ones of the victims will need more support.

Taking everything in as a whole, we have witnessed what the best and worst that humanity has to offer.

7 years. Your memory is still fresh in my mind and I still stop to think about you every now and then. I never forgot your sacrifice, but even more importantly, I will never forget the good person you were and how blessed I was to have had such a friend and brother. You had so much to offer the world, but I take comfort in the fact that you already offered so much to it and especially to those around you.

I believe that those who don’t know God as a Christian may know Him are not condemned. So as long as he or she knows love, there’s a place in His kingdom for that person…because God Is Love.
